Ric Scoles is a banjo player whose style bridges tradition and exploration, shaped by formal study at South Plains College and time spent learning from masters like Béla Fleck, Tony Trischka, and Alan Munde.
His playing has taken him from Texas to Nashville and now into the Florida music scene, picking up influences from bluegrass, jazz, and everything in between. Along the way, he’s developed a sound that’s both rooted and unpredictable—equal parts groove, tone, and curiosity.
In Florida, Ric became known for his work with Alien Sharecropper, a band recognized for pushing boundaries and earning a reputation as one of the most distinctive jazz groups in the area. More recently, he has been performing with The Bluhemians, a Sanford-based band blending bluegrass roots with classic rock energy. Ric’s playing blends tradition with exploration, staying rooted while always pushing toward where the music can go next.
